Dear Family of Friends;

It's almost here - that magical time of Christmas!! is the Season. I hope you can find quiet and peaceful moments in this time of 'hustle-bustle' ... it's good for your soul. We hope everyone enjoyed their day of Thanks ... my wish is that people would feel that all year long!! We should - we all have much to be thankful for.

As I write this, the sun is shining brightly, expected temperature today of 75. Colder days towards the end of the week, but I'm thankful the dogs have a reprieve to bask in the sun!!

Doesn't look like Christmas outside, but we know by the calendar it's fast approaching.

The week before Thanksgiving it was BRRRR COLD here. Cold in the south is different - the wind drives the humidity to the bone. We worked continuously to keep the dogs warm and snuggling in their igloos - some stuffed with 'coastal hay' (can't find straw here), others with wool blankets that have been donated by our local Good Samaritan Senior Center Thrift Store. Those items that aren't in the best of condition, they donate to our dogs!! They chuckle at me when I go to pick up the bedding, I get so excited!! It's important to me/us that the dogs stay WARM. I feel like I've won the lottery when 'our' little tub is packed!!
Sanctuary Dog of the Month
We have been 'showcasing' some of our permanent dogs aka 'Sanctuary Dogs'.
We have a few adoptable dogs, but the majority are 'lifers'.
Last month was Beabull.

Now, we present Duke:
Duke arrived in Colorado the end of January, 2010 from Philadelphia, PA, after a VERY LONG transport.  His family contacted us, asking if we would accept him to live out his life with us - he was in trouble for biting a person.  Otherwise, Duke, merely 3-yrs old, was to be put down and they did NOT want that.

Of course, Duke made the move to Texas with us.  They have stayed in touch with us over the years, keeping tabs on their boy.

Duke is a good boy, though he is selective with people.  We are bound by our commitment that Duke will live out his life with us and we do the best we can to make it a 'quality' life.  He's a big goofy boy, very loving with us.  Duke LOVES his antler chewz and watching the cows and horses and birds, chasing in the yard being a silly boy!!
We have been offered a very special, generous opportunity.
All proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts
will come to Mariah's Promise

to help get the last kennels fixed up!!

WOW!!!
